Theme 1- English around the World: Cultural Interactions

English is present in our daily lives. If you have access to the internet, most of the information the information there is in English : if you like listerning to pop songs, lots of them are in English; if you go to the cinema , most film productions are in English; in other words , we are in contact with English all the  time.

There are about 700 million speakers of English around the world. In some countries it is the first language, like in the USA and the United Kingdom, In Canada, for example, people speak English and French as official languages . In other countries, like South Africa, Pakistan and India, it is the second official language. And we cannot forget people who need no speak the language for profissional reasons : the world of science and business uses English as a means of communication. In this sense , English is considered a lingua franca.

But is the language the  same in all these contexts of use? Of course not. There are many different kinds of English. For example, a Bristish person would call a taxi to go home, but an American would call a cab; a student at school in the USA uses an eraser, whereas a school  boy in England uses a rubber.And an American inside a bank  waits in line, whereas a British waits in a queue.

O inglês está presente em nossas vidas diárias. Se você tem acesso à Internet, a maioria das informações é a informação em inglês: se você gosta de publicar músicas pop, muitas delas estão em inglês; Se você for ao cinema, a maioria das produções cinematográficas estão em inglês; em outras palavras, estamos em contato com o inglês o tempo todo.
Existem cerca de 700 milhões de falantes de inglês em todo o mundo. Em alguns países, é a primeira língua, como nos EUA e no Reino Unido, no Canadá, por exemplo, as pessoas falam inglês e francês como línguas oficiais. Em outros países, como África do Sul, Paquistão e Índia, é a segunda língua oficial. E não podemos esquecer pessoas que não precisam falar o idioma por razões profissionais: o mundo das ciências e dos negócios usa o inglês como meio de comunicação. Neste sentido, o inglês é considerado uma lingua franca.
Mas o idioma é o mesmo em todos esses contextos de uso? Claro que não. Existem muitos tipos diferentes de inglês. Por exemplo, uma pessoa Bristish chamaria um táxi para ir para casa, mas um americano chamaria um táxi; um estudante na escola nos EUA usa uma borracha( eraser) enquanto um garoto na Inglaterra usa uma borracha (rubber) E um americano dentro de um banco espera na fila  (line), enquanto um britânico espera em uma fila (queue).

Group Seach:

Search the curiosities of each speaking country of English Language, write a synthetic report in Portuguese Language, transcribe in English and then deliver to the teacher in foil paper.
